Solo's baby sister is a beauty! She already has her eye pigment, thanks to her lovely head markings. Her body markings
are very nice, but we aren't sure yet what color her spots are - red or fawn.
Once again, Dena is proving to be a very attentive mother, carefully washing her pup from nose to tail tip and back again
several times, before seeing to cleaning herself up. This little gal is not shy about voicing her opinion on being dislodged
from the milk bar by her mama's sometimes overly-enthusiastic ministrations!

I love that her head is marked so similarly to her Mama Dena's and Granny Joy's, with the double-pronged blaze. We can
already tell she's a snuggler! It's hard to tell whether she'll have brindle stripes in her spots at this point.
Because an ultrasound at 32 days had indicated at least two puppies, we had Dena checked over by our vet a few hours
after the arrival of our baby girl, but there were no retained puppies. Oh, well, the one we got is as precious as can
be!

Here is Dena with her little six day old daughter and snuggly "friends". According to the experts, one should add
toys to the whelping box with a singleton puppy, to provide obstacles for them to climb over for their muscle development.
I didn't have to do that for this puppy, because Dena began gathering toys for her from around the house on the first day!

We had to have a "Belly Shot", of course! Duet was a great nurser at just moments old, and hasn't missed any meals since
then. Like Solo before her, she's taking full advantage of having the milk bar all to herself. Don't you just want to rub
that little round, furry belly?

Between the toys in the bed and the fact that the bedding is actually a pile of squares from a cut-up blanket (because
of Dena's habbit of digging and nesting), this little gal has plenty of lumps and bumps to climb over.
Here she is getting all cleaned up for her one week "birthday". Dena is once again proving to be a wonderful mama!

Isn't she adorable? We think she is!
Duet is flurishing under Dena's care, and has already gained almost a pound in her first week. She weighed in at 13 ounces
at birth, and this evening, at one week and a few hours old, she weighed 1 pound, 11 ounces! I guess she's getting plenty
to eat!
Plop! Over on her side again. |
