six weeks, 1-2 days in whelp |
It looks like we're expecting another small litter, but hopefully not as small as last time. An ultrasound at 32 days
showed activity in both horns, so that means there should be at least two puppies - we're hoping there are more! However many,
they're sure to be special!

Seven weeks in whelp |
After a couple of days of watching Dena's temperature slowly drop, I got a reading of 98.2 F in the late afternoon on
Wednesday, August 1st. Dena was rather restless all that night (so was I!), finally beginning to "nest" in earnest the
next morning. By mid-morning on Thursday, August 2, 2007, she was having some obvious contractions and growing more and more
uncomfortable as time wore on. The photo below shows one position she experimented with in her bid to get comfy during her
labor.

My first glimpse of a new puppy came at just after 1:00 PM, when two tiny feet with tiny pink pads and tiny white nails
could be seen, but they quickly hid again. Poor Dena! She had worked very hard to get that far, but had more than a half an
hour yet to work before the whole puppy finally came out into the world - a beautiful little girl! Happy, but tired, Dena
turned her full attention to bathing her adorable daughter, who weighed in at 13 ounces.
