Hugo's Story

Once upon a time there lived a tall, handsome, young adventurer and a lovely, fair, red-haired, young maiden. They loved each other dearly, and shared a common dream: to one day marry and have a beautiful whippet of their very own. You see, they knew someone who had whippets, and were enamored of the breed's grace, affection, and charm. One day the whippet owner's household had a blessed event - newly born darlings filled them all with joy. The adventurer and his maiden fell in love with one precious little pup, but alas, they were young and had no castle to call their own. They had no home yet for themselves, and no place to keep an energetic whippet puppy. As the puppies grew, choices had to be made concerning them. The owners chose their keepers, and one by one they were finding wonderful new homes for the others, but for one little pup, the right home had not yet been found. Wait! This could be a divine plan! The little pup not yet spoken for was the very one that the young couple loved, but what could they do? They put their heads and hearts together, and a thought came to them: "Maybe we can make him ours, but let him stay with his mama and family until we are able to obtain our own home," they thought. It was a good thought, a well thought out thought. So the young adventurer and his fair maiden spoke to the whippet owners. Would they agree that the little pup could stay with them until the couple finished their adventuring (college), married, and established a castle of their own to take their beloved whippet home to? Of course they agreed! After all, they are the young man's parents! So the adventurer, Evan, and the maiden, Leah, became the proud owners of the whippet they loved, Hugo. We fully expect that they will live happily ever after!
